State Department Updates Conrad on Roxana Saberi
Administration Working with Allies, Maintaining Dialogue with Iran to Secure Safe Return of Fargo Native, Senator says
Washington – Senator Kent Conrad today said that everything possible is being done to secure the safe return of Fargo-native Roxana Saberi, a journalist who has been detained by Iranian authorities since last month.
“Like all North Dakotans, I am very concerned for Roxana’s well-being,” Senator Conrad said. “The State Department assured me today that it is doing everything they can to secure Roxana’s release. I will continue to monitor the situation closely and do everything in my power to ensure that she returns safely to her family.”
Senator Conrad received the update in a meeting with State Department Deputy Secretary Jack Lew at his Capitol Hill office.
Senator Conrad, along with Senator Byron Dorgan and Congressman Earl Pomeroy, has maintained regular contact with State Department officials, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, since learning of Saberi’s detention two weeks ago.
